Mission Statement
To inspire students and staff to make a positive difference for our planet by thinking and acting green
Vision Statement
The Long Beach Unified School District is an environmental leader in sustainable principles and practices to collectively make an impact in reducing our carbon footprint. We aspire to:
-
Educate students in becoming global citizens by designing curriculum that supports students in thinking critically about environmental issues and then applying their knowledge to initiate change
-
Prevent abundant waste by reducing, reusing, and recycling at all school sites and district facilities
-
Shift to a green lens perspective in decision making
-
Ensure common and consistent policies and practices district-wide
-
Reduce inequities in environmental programs, curriculum, and resources by ensuring that all schools and all students have access to grow their green programs
-
Connect with sustainable community partners to build relationships to help our schools and our community coexist in an environmentally friendly manner
-
Build a pathway toward Green Ribbon status by demonstrating and sustaining the three pillars of the Department of Education’s Green Ribbon Schools:
-
Pillar I: Reduce environmental impact and costs
-
Pillar II: Improve the health and wellness of schools, students, and staff
-
Pillar III: Provide effective environmental education
