Colin L. Powell Academy opened its beautiful campus in September 1999, to approximately 1,000 enthusiastic kindergarten through eighth grade students. The school, located in North Long Beach, was the first new school in the community in 46 years. Named for a great American, the Academy is designed to meet the education challenges of the 21st century.

Colin Powell has lush, grassy knolls, an outdoor amphitheater and a newly completed, state of the art, gymnasium, a brand new Gateway PC Computer Lab, an Apple Mobile Computer Lab, and a music room. The two-story portable construction is the first of its kind in the state of California, completely constructed and operational within eight months. Colin Powell offers programs and resources to meet the needs of all students.

Since the time of our opening, we have grown to a campus of 1,500 students in grades K-8. During the Fall of 2007, we converted from a 4-track, year-round schedule to all grades on a modified Track B schedule.  Each year we challenge our students in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, physical education, and music. Over the past four years our API score has risen consistently and is now approaching very closely to 700. We look forward to continuing to meet the needs of our diverse community in the upcoming years.

The Colin L. Powell Academy staff has dedicated itself to the relentless pursuit of success for all students, faculty, and families -- our community of learners.

Every Student is to Become Proficient or Advanced Proficient in Reading and Math.
