The Message Times

When we read a book or watch a movie or listen to music, we are often captivated by what we see, hear, and understand. Why is that? Usually it's because of THE MESSAGE the artist is sending us via the medium in which they create.

The Long Beach Unified School District presents, "The Message," a regular television program where creative professionals interface with high school students and explain the creative process as it applies to them. Broadcasting teacher, Ray Sharp, hosts the program, aided by questions from students in the audience.

Writers, directors, artists, and actors among others will discuss what makes them create, why they do it, and how they do it. The program goal is for students to have a better idea of their own creative powers and creative pathways.

Each show is taped live in one of the LBUSD high school auditoriums where students can appreciate the artists "up close and personal." It's another example of the work being done in our district to benefit students that can't be found anywhere else.
