During last night's Site Council meeting, I brought up the issue of students in professional dress versus the Millikan uniform.  It was decided by the Site Council to review this issue during the first or second meeting of next year's Site Council.  As a group Site Council will review the issue and make recommendations regarding professional dress.  As of this time, I am requesting a moratorium on students in professional dress.  Teachers will have to wait until after the Site Council vote next school year before we allow our students to wear professional dress.

Mock SAT
Important message regarding SAT preparation for next year‚s juniors and seniors ---SAT scores play and important part in the college admissions process. Millikan High School is working cooperatively with Revolution Prep to offer both a Mock SAT test opportunity and three sessions of SAT preparation classes. The mock exam, to be held in the Millikan library on Saturday, September 15, 2007, will cost only $20. More than 100 Millikan pupils took this mock exam this past September. In addition, three sessions of classes are scheduled (one this summer and two in the fall).

Taking a practice SAT is a valuable exercise that can help to increase a student’s performance on the actual SAT. Long Beach Millikan High School’s College Counseling Department has teamed up with Revolution Prep to offer students the opportunity to take a mock SAT which will include a complete practice SAT test including an essay. All sections of the practice exam will then be graded by Revolution Prep. Individualized feedback will be provided online, includingpersonalized comments on the essay and a detailed score report (see the enclosed brochure for a sample report). Please note this is an opportunity for students to take a mock SAT, not the actual SAT exam administered through the College Board. Well over 100 Millikan pupils took this mock test last September. Principals Message May 18, 2007
I have spent the last two mornings on the corner of Palo Verde and Belen watching the students as they arrived to campus. I was on the corner because of numerous complaints that I have received about students not following the rules of the road and putting themselves in danger. I witnessed students who piled off city buses walking across the streets in mass and sometimes jaywalking. I watched individual students from the neighborhood jaywalk in front of oncoming traffic. When traffic backed up on Palo Verde at the Rite Aide traffic light I observed parents allowing their children to exit their cars and walk across traffic lanes. I heard cars blow their horns and saw some drivers wave at our students with an extended middle finger. I cannot stress how important it is for all of us to make sure our students obey the rules of the road. Read More

Principals Message March 30
This week has been one of the busiest I have ever experienced at Millikan High School.  Luckily, it seems like we did very well.  The actual term of accreditation will not be officially known for several weeks.  I have included a list of the strengths and areas for improvement that were determined by the WASC Accreditation Committee.  I want to thank the members of the committee for their time and willingness to look at Millikan High School with fresh eyes and then judge us on our merits and question us on our areas where we need to improve.  The Committee‚s Chair, Dr. Dan Burch, of Tesoro High School paid Millikan a great compliment when he stated that he would send his daughter to our fine school.  Way to go RAMS, you make me proud!
