Hello Millikan Community,


This week has been one of the busiest I have ever experienced at Millikan High School.  Luckily, it seems like we did very well.  The actual term of accreditation will not be officially known for several weeks.  I have included a list of the strengths and areas for improvement that were determined by the WASC Accreditation Committee.  I want to thank the members of the committee for their time and willingness to look at Millikan High School with fresh eyes and then judge us on our merits and question us on our areas where we need to improve.  The Committee‚s Chair, Dr. Dan Burch, of Tesoro High School paid Millikan a great compliment when he stated that he would send his daughter to our fine school.  Way to go RAMS, you make me proud!

I would really like to thank the members of the PTSA and the Compass Booster Group who really came through during this week and provided all the hospitality for our visitors and the numerous meetings that occurred on campus.  The parents who volunteered their time and energy did an excellent job of showing off the Millikan Nation.  I would also like to thank the following students:  Jennifer Gordon, Bashir Hassan, Matthew Hodges, Briana Perez, Ericka Rhodes, Stefanie Sandoval and Joe Tuiteleleapaga.  These students met the Visiting Committee on Sunday and gave them an hour long tour of the campus.  The Committee mentioned the visit and these young folks more than once and why wouldn‚t they, they are great representatives of our school.

On Thursday, March 22nd, Millikan broke all records at the blood drive that was held on campus by Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.  Our students and staff donated a record 243 pints of blood which has the potential to affect 729 lives at Memorial Hospital.  Sarah Wilhelm was the ASB member who served as Committee Chair for this blood drive and she and her committee did an outstanding job.

Finally, I need to share news of a possible walkout that I have heard through the media.  The Spanish speaking media and Myspace have been discussing a planned walkout for March 30th.  The students have not been talking about this walkout at Millikan, but I still wanted to let everyone know about the possibility.
