Hello Millikan Community,

Tomorrow, March 21, 2007 @ 6:00 P.M., there is going to be another Community Dialogue in the Millikan Cafeteria.  This dialogue is titled, "Building on Success:  Schools for the Next Generation."  You are once again invited to come and share your views on which schools to renovate and rebuild.  Your input will help LBUSD to develop a Facility Master Plan for the 21st Century and beyond.

Congratulations to our Millikan Counseling Department for winning the recognition of Best in the West for their recent Support Personnel Accountability Report Card, S.P.A.R.C. The Awards Ceremony will be held on Friday, March 30th in Ontario.

On Sunday, I attended a banquet for the Boys' Varsity Basketball team.  Although the boys had a rather difficult season, they never gave up!  I was especially impressed with their grade point average as a team.  At the end of luncheon, the team showed their appreciation for their coaches.  Thank you all for the courage and sportsmanship that you showed this season.

I have attached a link to an A – G survey.  This five-minute survey is intended to gather parents' views on the college entrance requirements.  These requirements are a sequence of high school courses that students must complete (with a grade of C or better) to be minimally eligible for admission to the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU).  Please take a few minutes to complete this survey.

The May 1st deadline for Service Learning is rapidly approaching.  Our Senior class of 2007 has completed 52% of their hours.  This equals 354 students.  Please impress upon your students the importance of completing this graduation requirement.

Our WASC visitation committee will arrive on campus this Sunday and remain with us until Wednesday.  The WASC Document has been posted on our website and I invite you to take a look.  We are really looking forward to this visit, because we feel that we are ready to show off Millikan High School.  Wish us luck!

Many Millikan stakeholders have been less than happy with this year's bell schedule.  Based on this dissatisfaction, Millikan High School teaching staff voted on a new 4 x 4 Block Schedule for 2007-2008.  I am happy to inform you that RAMHI will be returning to a schedule that is just like the schedule for the school year 2005 – 2006.  I have included a copy of the new schedule which will consist of 90 minute periods.  The third and fourth period classes have three minutes extra for the reading of the bulletin.

Finally, I would like to congratulate Matthew Hodges for winning the 2007 Mr. Ram Contest.  Matthew is a Cadet Lieutenant Colonel with our ROTC program.  He was named the Millikan Military Ball Prince, and he received 1st place for the ROTC physical fitness cadet challenge.  He is a third degree red belt in Hapkido and is working on his black belt.  At this time, Matthew has been accepted by Azusa Pacific University.  Matthew is a great young man and he arrives at Millikan between 6:00 A.M. and 6:15 A.M. on a daily basis.  I know because I see him every morning as I arrive.

All my best,

Jeff

All your life you are told the things you cannot do. All your life they will say you're not good enough or strong enough or talented enough; they will say you're the wrong height or the wrong weight or the wrong type to play this or be this or achieve this. THEY WILL TELL YOU NO, a thousand times no, until all the no's become meaningless. All your life they will tell you no, quite firmly and very quickly.
AND YOU WILL TELL THEM YES."   Nike Ad
