September, 2006
Dear Parents,
In an effort to continue our
tradition of safety and academic
rigor on the campus of every LBUSD
high school, the Board of Education, our Assistant Superintendent of High
School and all high school principal’s will continue our mandatory student
identification card for the 2006-2007 school year. It is the feeling of all high school principals that we have
a tremendous responsibility ensuring the safety of each and every student in
our schools. We want to maintain
the high expectations that Long Beach Unified has always had in regards to
school safety. We believe a
student ID card is another step towards adhering to those high expectations. With this in mind, we need your help to
ensure that all students are safe at school. We believe a student
identification card that is visible gives our schools assurance that every
student can be identified immediately.
The purpose of this letter is to provide you with our policy for implementation
of student ID’s in September 2006.
Safety is our first priority
at Millikan High School. As a parent of a Millikan student we
are asking the following of you. Please read carefully and discuss with your
child the school ID guidelines in this letter. It is important that you and your child understand the
importance of a mandatory student identification policy as a means of
supporting school safety.
The following student identification policy will become
effective in all high schools beginning September 2006:
·
All students 9-12 were
issued a free student identification card and lanyard during registration week,
August 22 – 25. Makeup picture and
ID opportunities are extending through Monday, September 11, 2006..
·
A student must display
his/her ID around his/her neck or above his/her waist at all times while on
campus.
·
Any student coming to
school without his/her ID needs to acquire a temporary ID at a cost of
$1.00. Temporary ID’s are good for
one day.
·
If an ID is lost or defaced a student
will be charged $5.00 for a
replacement.
Finally, as part of modeling
the importance of student identification and safety, all staff members will be
encouraged to wear a school ID card as well. It was also mandated that all
district employees continue to wear a district ID badge while on a LBUSD
campus. LBUSD wants to continue
its tradition of ensuring high expectations for safety and academic rigor. As a concerted effort by all
stakeholders (staff members, parents, students) we believe student
identification cards is another means of providing our high school setting with
a safe and productive climate.
Thank you for your immediate
attention to this. Please call
with any questions or comments.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeff Cornejo Don
