Application Process

 

Ø     After attending the Recruitment Faire, all 8th grade students will submit an Application for High School/Secondary Specialized Programs to Middle School Counselors by the deadline.

 

***STUDENTS MUST CHOOSE MILLKAN HIGH SCHOOL FIRST, then the specific academy to which they are applying.***

 

Placement

 

Ø     Students are placed according to the following protocol:

o       1st priority- Neighborhood students and students who have been placed at a school because their school of residence is full

o       2nd priority- Students admitted to Secondary Specialized Programs

o       3rd priority- Random School of Choice selection process (done through Matt Saldana’s office)

                                                                                                                          §      Note: Students who have siblings already enrolled in a school for one of the above reasons (in priority order) and continuing the next year at the same school will be given priority based on space availability

                             Ø      February 2007: High School Office will place students in high schools based on data from Application for High School/Secondary Specialized Programs form.

                             Ø      Notifications will be mailed home directly from HSO.

                             Ø      Random selection process if a school receives more applications than space allows.

·        Students who are not accepted will be assigned to attend their resident high school or another high school that has space.

·        High School Counselors will visit Middle Schools in March 2007 to being the programming process for all 8th graders accepted to a particular school.

 

Room Assignments

 

On December 2, each Academy will be assigned a room at Poly High School to showcase its program, during the High School Choice Faire. Come prepared will all necessary materials including: audio/visual material or equipment, brochures, handouts, posters, display boards, and staff. Tables will be provided.

 

If you choose to have student representatives attend, please ask them to dress in uniform. You are also encouraged to wear Millikan attire to show school culture and spirit.
