I
wanted to send you an update regarding the end of the school
year and the beginning of summer school. Yesterday,
we started our summer session with over 1400 students. For
the next five weeks these students will skip the traditional
pursuits of summer in order to make up credits and prepare for
upcoming classes and tests. I
applaud their resolve to catch up or prep for next year. Read

The
word busy doesn’t seem to be appropriate to describe
the last few weeks here at Robert A. Millikan High School. After
consulting my thesaurus, I believe the word frenetic (feverishly
excited, frenzied, frantic) is the word that best fits
the bill. Read More

Disney Teacher Awards
I
wanted to share some very exciting news about one of Millikan's
very own teachers. Ms. Roberta Patterson, Art Teacher, has
been selected as a 2005 Disney Teacher Awards Honoree. The
Disney Teacher Awards honors creativity in teaching and celebrates
teachers who inspire and have amazing influence on children and
families. Ms. Patterson is one of the 45 teachers selected
from approximately 50,000 teachers nationwide who applied for
this award. She will be Disney's guest in July at the awards
ceremonies and commensurate activities. This award is a great
honor, and I believe that Ms. Patterson rightfully deserves this
recognition. All you have to do to confirm my assertion is ask
any of her students from throughout the years. You make Millikan
proud!

I wanted to report some exciting news about the academic program
at Millikan. The
California School Recognition Program website http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/sr/cs/ap/eligible05c.asp?District_Number=64725 reports that
Robert A. Millikan High School along with three other high schools

the California Distinguished School Award.
The actual process for applying for this award will be
a very long and arduous task, but in my estimation it will be
well worth the effort. The teachers and support staff of our high
school have been working extremely hard to improve the educational
experience of our students. This recognition...More.
