Greetings from Millikan,
I wanted to report some exciting news
about the academic program at Millikan.
The California School Recognition Program website http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/sr/cs/ap/eligible05c.asp?District_Number=64725 reports that
Robert A. Millikan High School along with three other high schools in the Long
Beach Unified School District are able to apply for the California
Distinguished School Award. The
actual process for applying for this award will be a very long and arduous
task, but in my estimation it will be well worth the effort. The teachers and
support staff of our high school have been working extremely hard to improve
the educational experience of our students. This recognition is an acknowledgement of that hard work. It
may sound like a cliché but it really is an honor to be nominated!
Our Back to School Night took place on the night of Wednesday, October 6th and I had the opportunity to meet many parents and family members of our students. By the way, I think that there were more parents at this Back to School Night than I have ever seen in my thirteen years at Millikan High School. For those parents who attended this event, thank you for your support. Even though some of your students may attempt to dissuade you from ever stepping foot on our campus, we encourage your participation.
Our School Board member, James Choura, http://www.lbusd.k12.ca.us/district/board_of_education/index.asp will spend the day with us on November 19th. Mr. Choura will spend the afternoon visiting the campus, classrooms, speaking to students and staff members. There will be a meeting in the library at 3:00 p.m. for any person from the Millikan Community who has questions for, or who just wants to meet Mr. Choura. We hope to see you on the 19th.
“Disney is searching for amazing, dynamic creative teachers who lead their students to the heights of learning. When they find those outstanding teachers they’re going to honor them with monetary awards totaling over $700,000 and recognition at an awards gala. Please give them a hand in making sure they locate each and every deserving teacher. Students, parents, other teachers – anyone who knows a great teacher – please contact Disney before October 15, 2004. Giving teachers a hand like this is the most powerful way you can thank a teacher. Call toll – free 1-877-282-8322 or log on to www.disneyhand.com .”
Best wishes,
Jeff
