Hello Millikan Family and Friends,

I wanted to send you an update regarding the end of the school year and the beginning of summer school.  Yesterday, we started our summer session with over 1400 students.  For the next five weeks these students will skip the traditional pursuits of summer in order to make up credits and prepare for upcoming classes and tests.  I applaud their resolve to catch up or prep for next year.

In a recent e-mail from Mr. Jason Wilson, he wrote “I’ve noticed service is becoming popular these days.  I thought that I’d just write you to inform you that my senior kids have donated 2880 hours of their time (or the equivalent of) to non-profit organizations throughout Long Beach and the world.  This is just since September 2004!  What this means is that each student worked for 2 free hours per week.”  It is hoped that these young people will continue with their charitable giving and their efforts need to be applauded.

I want to continue with this theme of recognizing our graduates for the class of 2005.  I have included the text of my speech from graduation.  For those of you who did not attend the ceremony, it was an extremely smooth operation.  The graduates looked great and had a wonderful time at this pivotal event in their lives.  I have included a URL address, http://www.presstelegram.com, from the Press Telegram that has a photo gallery of Millikan’s graduation.
