MILLIKAN HIGH SCHOOL

Hello Millikan Family and Friends,
There was a complimentary article about our Girls’ Water Polo Team and two shining stars. “Millikan Girls Learn With the Big Fishes” is the name of the article and Sarah Odegard and Nicole Galaz are featured in the article. I must say that I am impressed with the amount of coverage that our athletic program has received in the last year from the Press Telegram.

Congratulations to Ms. Sandy Lucas for her nomination for a BRAVO award. This award honors teachers and schools for achievement in the arts. The formal awards gala will be held on March 1st at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. The award will be presented to two teachers and one school for demonstrating excellence in arts education.
Two of our teachers applied for the Smithsonian Scholar Program. Ms. Mary Massich and Ms. Ella Anderson were both chosen for classroom visits from the Smithsonian speakers. The Smithsonian Scholar School Program serves more than 3,000 Long Beach students from the elementary to the university level each year. Folktale scholar Jim Garry and scholar Claudia Kidwell will visit the schools and discuss areas of their expertise. Others will be mesmerized by Dr. William Melson’s talks on volcanoes, tsunamis, earthquakes and the secrets of the active earth beneath Southern California.
Students will also learn about the Smithsonian Institute, which is the world’s largest museum complex with 16 museums that house the United States’ national collections in natural history, American history, air and space, fine and decorative arts, and other fields.
Finally, I have attached a copy of the Rambler. The Rambler is the school’s newsletter from the PTSA. I want to acknowledge the work of Susie Hipp for putting together this newsletter. I would also like to acknowledge the work of our PTSA for their work on Millikan’s campus.
Best wishes,
Jeff
