Hello All,
Congratulations
to all the athletes that just completed their winter seasons. Our student athletes had very
successful seasons and some even reached the playoffs. I am sure that they all have gained a
great deal by being members of the various RAM teams. To all the Millikan athletes and coaches, keep up the good
work and thank you for representing Robert A. Millikan High School.
Five female
Millikan athletes were the guests of honor at a recent signing celebration in
the Howard Lyon Gymnasium. The
girls represented various sports and they will be attending some prestigious
four-year universities on scholarships.
Kara Harper from the softball team signed with Tennessee at Martin. Jennifer Bermingham from the golf team
signed with U.C. Riverside. Mary
Has from the basketball team signed with California State University Long
Beach. Cassidy Moore from the
basketball team signed with Loyola Marymount University. Finally, Brittany San Jose from the
volleyball team signed with UC Santa Barbara. These young ladies are inspiring because of their athletic
ability as well as their academic achievement.
Last night, the
Millikan Band hosted a Band Spectacular on the football field. There were marching bands from Jordan
High School, Lakewood High School, Millikan High School, Poly High School and
Wilson High School. The Long Beach
City College band was also in attendance and played music while the marching
bands set up. The musical event
was very well attended and all the various band members seemed to have a really
good time. The final musical presentation
was an all band production. I
really enjoyed the event and the final number was extremely well done. Thank you to Ms. Annes and her booster
organization for doing such a “spectacular” job.
There is an
Actors Anonymous Production of “Noises Off!” in the Millikan High School
Auditorium. This comedy was
written by Michael Frayn and is being directed by our very own Ms. Wendy
Atwell. There was already one performance
last night and there will be a performance tonight, Thursday night and Friday
night. The curtain rises at 6:30
p.m. and costs $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students, senior citizens and
children. Come see our extremely
talented Millikan High School performers in this laugh a minute comedy!
Right now, there are
approximately 200 Juniors taking the California High School Exit Exam
(CAHSEE). These students are
completing the mathematics portion of the CAHSEE. Best wishes to these young people in their endeavor to
successfully complete the CAHSEE. By June 2006, it is our hope that the entire
class of Seniors will have passed the exit exam and be eligible to graduate.
On November 18th
at 11:30 a.m., a group of 40 of our Juniors and Seniors will leave on a tour of
colleges. The AVID students and
their chaperones will visit three universities. They will first visit Harvey Mudd College and the nearby
Claremont McKenna College. The
last leg of their trip will take them to the University of Nevada, Las
Vegas. While at UNLV the students
will meet with professors from the different schools of education. The students and their chaperones have
also been invited to a UNLV swim meet and a basketball game.
