                                                                                            September 16, 2003

Dear Millikan Parents,

On September 17, 2001, Millikan High School had 4701 students and the school was extremely crowded. Many parents, students and staff members longed for the days when the Millikan student body was less than 4000. I am happy to report that as of September 16, 2003 the population of Millikan High School is 3981. Because of this decrease in population and the financial constraints that are attributable to the California budget crisis, we have to close some classes at this time. Unfortunately, we are losing four highly qualified staff members to other high schools in the district. Our loss is definitely the gain for Cabrillo and Lakewood High Schools. This loss of teachers necessitates changes in almost every academic department and several smaller learning communities. Every effort will be made to accommodate your childŐs needs within these constraints. It is our plan to have these class changes made by Tuesday, September 23, 2003.

Thank you,

Karen Brinkman and Jeffrey M. Cornejo, Ed.D., Co-Principals
