MILLIKAN HIGH SCHOOL UNIFORM DRESS CODE, 2006-2007

The Long Beach Unified School District requires all students who choose to attend Millikan High School to wear a uniform and must agree, in writing, to conform to the standards described below.

MILLIKAN UNIFORM:

School IDs must be displayed above the waist
Khaki or navy blue bottoms
SOLID navy or SOLID white tops (shirts worn under tops must be white)
Sweatshirts, sweaters, light jackets, and outer wear (jackets, coats) must be:

• SOLID navy blue, SOLID white, or SOLID gold
• Millikan sweatshirts are recommended and available in quantity
• Logos may not be larger than the size of a "quarter" coin

STANDARDS/RULES:

• Size appropriate clothing is required (citations will be issued for oversized shirts).
• Shirts or tops must be collared.
• No bare midriffs.
• Undergarments may not be exposed. Under t-shirts must be tucked in.
• Students may not wear jean/denim clothing at any time. Khaki overalls are permitted.
• Millikan spirit wear may be worn on Fridays.
• Millikan team jerseys and warm-ups may be worn on game days.
• Shoes must adhere to LBUSD standards.
• Shorts and skirts must be fingertip length or longer.
• Hoods must remain down at all times on campus.
• Hats, head bands, wave caps, bandannas, hairnets, and combs in the hair are not permitted.
• Tears, holes, patches, slits in the seams, and ragged hems in clothes and shoes are not permitted.
• No gloves, chains, badges, patches, spiked accessories, initialed belt buckles.
• No tank tops, swimsuits, short shorts, beach attire, low neckline, low back line, spaghetti straps, or shoulder exposing garments are permitted.
• There is no gang-related writing on backpacks, shoes, and clothing.

ENFORCEMENT: (Citations are issued on all offenses)

Dress code violators will be assigned to detention outside of class time (nutrition, lunch, after school). Repeat Offenders are subject to progressive discipline, eventually leading to transfer to another school.

Millikan's dress standards were revised/reviewed by a committee of parents and staff during the spring of 2006 and approved by the Site Council.

1st violation	Borrow shirt if available and finish period in ACE If no shirt available ACE all day If no one can bring shirt ACE all day If in violation of pants/dress all day ACE unless parent can bring in proper clothing.
2nd violation	Ace for period and after school detention or ACE all day
3rd violation	ACE all day
4th & 5th violation	Truancy Center
6th violation	Home suspension

** Demerits will no longer be issued for dress code violations and/or lack of ID cards

               

SPIRIT CLOTHING AND SPIRIT DAYS

Schools may have special provisions that allow school spirit team, or club-related clothing, to be worn on designated days.

UNACCEPTABLE CLOTHING AND GROOMING FOR ALL GRADES

• Insignias of non-school sponsored organizations that may be associated with gang activities or any other illegal activities will not be permitted on campus. This includes initialized belt buckles.
• Hats, headbands, headgear, wave caps, bandannas, baseball-type caps, hairnets, and combs in the hair are not permitted. However, official Millikan team or spirit hats may be worn on Fridays.
• Tears, holes, patches, slits in the seams, and ragged hems in clothes and shoes.
• Sweat pants, sweat or jogging outfits, matching or not, are not acceptable.
• Sleeveless undershirts are not acceptable as outer garments.
• Solid white undershirts worn as outerwear are not permitted.
• Swimsuits, short shorts, beach attire, low neckline, low back line, spaghetti straps, or shoulderless garments are not acceptable for school wear. No bare midriffs may show at any time.
• Hemlines and slits on dresses, skirts and shorts are not to be shorter than mid-thigh.
• Pants must be worn at waist level; sagging or oversized pants are unacceptable.
• Bib-type attire may be worn only if straps are up or tucked into the waistband.
• Flip-flops may not be worn at any time.
• Cellular phones, beepers and/or pagers of any kind may not visible or used on campus, nor can walk-man type electronic equipment.

 

The Long Beach Unified School District requires all students who attend Millikan High School to wear a uniform.  In cases of economic hardship, help in obtaining uniforms is available.  For more information, please call Doug Stewart, assistant principal at (562) 425-7441.  If you are unable to resolve your concerns, you may obtain a Parent/Guardian Complaint Form in the school office.
