Financial Aid Overview

Three types of Financial Aid:

  • Grants:  Federal or state gift assistance with no obligation for repayment.  
  • Work Study:  Part-time employment while attending the college or university.
  • Loans:  Obligated to repay the loan with low interest rate.

Steps to completing FAFSA:

  • Step 1:  You and one parent must apply for a PIN number at www.pin.ed.gov in order to file for FAFSA online in January.
  • Step 2:  Be sure to submit your Social Security Number to Mrs. Ponce in the Career Center, room 715. You social security number is needed for the Cal Grant's GPA verification.  You must submit FAFSA before  March 2, 2010 in order to qualify for Cal Grant.
  • Step 3:  Complete and submit your FAFSA at  www.fafsa.ed.gov before March 2, 2010 of senior year.
  • Step 4: You should receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) by mail within four to six weeks.  Make changes to your SAR if needed.
