STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

Bus Information – Important – June 6 and June 11 there will be no late morning buses. We will have regular afternoon buses to go home.

 

Senior Finals - today are 5 & 7.

 

Honor Guard Applications - June 5 last day to turn in junior honor guard applications. Results will be posted Friday June 6. Meeting on Monday June 9 at 12:15 in the mirror room. If you have questions come see Miss Braun #605

 

Way to go Millikan and QUEST Club! - the Million Book and Dime project collected over 500 books to ship to Africa. Thanks for your support in breaking the cycle of poverty and illiteracy around the world. Volunteers are now needed after school to help pack and ship books. If you are interested stop by room 836 after school any day this week or next.

Visions Night - is this Friday, June 6th at 6:00. Come out and celebrate the Arts. There will be live music, poetry, spoken word, wall painting, face painting, food, and good times. We will also be selling this year's edition of the magazine for $6. We hope to see you there.

 

AP Summer Bridge - schedules are being distributed through English classes.  If you registered for Summer Bridge, see your English teacher at the end of this week to pick up your schedule.  No other reminders will be sent so post this schedule on your calendar at home, or your fridge, or wherever you will see it often so that you don't forget the dates and times.  So until we meet again in August, have a great summer!

 

Yearbooks – will be passed out at nutrition and lunch today.

 

Summer School – Pick up your enrollment card for summer school from your counselor. Summer school dates are June 23 to July 25.

 

Students - Are you passing Geometry with a C or better? Are you taking Intermediate Algebra next year? If so, there's a summer opportunity to help you hone your skills.  On Tuesday, Aug. 26th, Wednesday, August 27th, or Thursday, Aug. 28th, a one-day refresher course will be offered right here at Millikan just for you!  For more information or to sign up, stop by rooms 835, 334, or 307 and talk with Mrs. Adams, Edwards or McCroskey!  Join us with you knowledge and your calculator!

 

MHS Library - will be closed to unscheduled students and classes the final two weeks of school. The MHS Library will be open at lunchtime and after school for students needing access to computers.

Seniors will not be able to participate in graduation activities unless all fines and fees have been paid. Returning students will not be able to register for the upcoming year at Millikan High School during Summer Registration until all fines and fees have been cleared and all Library materials have been returned.

 

Join Choir Next Yeartoday audition for choir...you don't have to prepare anything...just show up at lunch in room 501 (Choir Room). Students who are in choir now will be there to answer any questions...see you there.

Visions Magazine -the 2008 edition of Visions Magazine is now on sale for $6. Please come to Mr. Vann's Bungalow (565) to purchase one. A list of contributors will be posted on the door of 565 and near the library. All contributors are entitled to one free copy of the magazine. All money raised from magazine sales goes towards publishing next year's edition. Please support our efforts. Please support the arts. Thank you.

 

Drum Line Tryoutstoday, June 5th. Bring your sticks. Everyone trying out must read music or have the concept of reading music. Meet in the band room (505) after school at 3:00 pm.

 

ROP Class – If you like children and want a fun way to earn 10 credits enroll in the summer ROP Careers withChildren class. After classroom instruction at Emerson Elementary, students are placed in preschool, elementary or recreation internships in various locations in the school district. Class begins June 16, not the 23rd. Students must be present for the first class meeting. See your counselor as soon as possible to enroll.

 

Boys' Summer Soccer Program - Are you interested in playing soccer next year? If so, see Coach Poerschke in room 417 for sign-up information. $15 gets you a Millikan soccer t-shirt and enrolls you in the summer soccer program.

 

Millikan Book Fair - at the Towne Center Barnes and Noble June 6-8. Wait to buy your summer reading – QUEST Legacy of Literacy Project is sponsoring this event. A portion of all proceeds go to support QUEST and Literacy Programs at Millikan.

 

Are you a sophomore or junior interested in studying Engineering in college? Have you ever wondered what it takes to create a video game, make a robot “think”, or how people can predict the weather 7 days from now? It’s all about computer software. AP Computer Science is a college level class that introduces you to the major ideas of how computer software is designed. If you are interested or if you have any questions, ask your counselor or talk to Mr. Jacobson in room 830.

SERVICE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Community Hospital of Long Beach – positions are various. Minimum age is 15 years old. Duties are to enhance patient stay in hospital, and to assist staff. Skills needed: communication, responsible, reliable, good health and a professional outlook. Contact Gayle Clock @ 494-0514 or gclock@chlb.org

BUILDING CLOSURES: All buildings are closed at 11:25 a.m. on a daily basis. Please help us with security by not allowing students into your class after 11:25 a.m. Students should not leave before 11:45 a.m.

TEACHER SECTION:

The Millikan School Site Council will be meeting at 3:00 pm in room 924 on Wednesday, June 4. All staff members are encouraged and welcome to attend.
