Parent Workshops / Meetings

The five District Parent Resource Centers provide parents with dozens of interactive and fun-filled workshops (including topics such as Reading, Math, Science, Motivation, Homework, Discipline, Preparing for Middle and High School, etc.). The centers also offer resources that parents can use at home to assist them in their roles as their children's "Learning Partners" at home. In addition, the centers offer ESL classes, parenting classes, and after school tutoring.

Parent/Family Education Workshops

  • Parent/Family workshops offer parents and home learning partners strategies, tips, and activities to assist them in giving their children additional 'help' from their homes.   The document below provides information about all of the available Parent Workshops.  If you are interested in a workshop, please ask for it at your school.  Workshops are available in both English and Spanish.  Some workshops are available in Khmer.

District Community Advisory Committee (DCAC) Meetings

  • Representatives from each of the Title I schools make up this parent advisory committee.  These monthly meetings provide opportunities for parents to become involved and informed about the education of their children.  Parents are also introduced to the various District programs (including interventions) that are available for their children.  This group also participates in the annual Parent Leadership Training. As representatives, parents are encouraged to disseminate information from the meetings to other parents at their school, in School Site Council, District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC), PTA, or staff meetings.

Concerned African American Parents (CAAP) Meetings

Meetings also include motivational speakers and Saturday educational 'outings.'

District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) Meetings

  • The DELAC meetings are for parents of students who are English Language Learners.  Each Title I school sends representatives to these monthly meetings.  Information is disseminated to parents at the sites' English Language Advisory Council (ELAC) meeting.  These meetings offer parents information about the many District programs that are available for their students.
