For parents and students, the start of a new school year brings a unique mix of excitement and a little apprehension. You may be comforted to know that parents are reporting to us that they are strongly satisfied with their schools’ teachers and administrators. They give their schools high marks in the important areas of safety, maintenance of school buildings and grounds, and communication to and from school. Overwhelmingly they tell us that their children are challenged in school, and that their children’s teachers motivate students to do their best work.
We appreciate this encouraging feedback, which inspires us to improve further. One of our major goals is to make certain that each high school graduate is equipped with the skills necessary for success in college or technical education and in demanding careers. We will continue to set high standards for all students while providing the support and encouragement needed to reach these expectations.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who works hard each day to help our children to succeed. This includes our parents, teachers, administrators, support staff, business partners and many other community supporters who have put children at the forefront despite difficult obstacles.
Strong parental and community support have helped our schools to enjoy a level of success that many other school systems seek to emulate. Student achievement continues to show significant and steady gains. We have successfully navigated one of the most difficult school funding periods in the state’s history without the damaging budget cuts seen in other school districts. The new school year holds much promise for success.
Thank you for entrusting your children to our schools and for remaining involved in their education. With your help, we will continue to give your children their best chance for a bright future – an excellent education.
