Mentoring Options
There are few activities more gratifying than helping people realize their full potential. By becoming a mentor, you can help a student realize his or her full potential. A few hours of your time can truly change a life.
While we would like for every mentor to commit to meeting with their mentee once per week, we understand that everyone’s schedule may not permit this. Therefore to maximize participation, we offer three different mentoring options with three different time commitments:
- PLATINUM Mentors provide quality academic and personal support for an identified student. They meet with their mentors once a week (minimum) during the student’s lunch hour or after school. The mentor and student should agree on a specific day and time, and consistently meet on that day and time every week. All meetings take place at the student’s school, and a minimum one-year commitment is required. We encourage all potential mentors to become Platinum mentors because meeting once a week really provides the greatest opportunity to make a difference.
- GOLD Mentors provide quality academic and personal support for an identified student. They meet with their mentors once every two weeks (minimum) during the student’s lunch hour or after school. The mentor and student should agree on a specific day and time, and consistently meet on that day and time every week. All meetings take place at the student’s school, and a minimum one-year commitment is required. By meeting every other week, Gold Mentors can definitely make a difference in a student’s life.
- SILVER Mentors go to a school once per month and could do any number of things. They may be asked to tutor students, be a resource speaker, or possibly even mentor a single student once per month. It all depends on the needs of the school sites and the interests of the mentor. A minimum three-month consistent commitment is required. By volunteering once per month, Silver mentors can positively impact one or more students.
The Mentoring Moments Interest Survey will ask you to select a mentoring option, so please pick the one that works best for you. We encourage you to become a “Platinum” mentor, but still very much appreciate “Gold” and “Silver” mentors.
