Reading Recovery
Reading Recovery is a researched based, short-term intervention program for the most struggling first grade readers. Reading Recovery is designed to work with any classroom program. Reading Recovery training is a professional development collaboration between universities and school districts where qualified teachers receive yearlong and ongoing professional development so that they can work daily, one-to-one, with first grade students having extreme difficulty learning to read and write. A specially trained teacher provides individually designed lessons which promote accelerated learning. Each child is expected to make faster-than-average progress so that he or she can catch up with other children in the class.
Reading Recovery is a documented way of reducing the number of children who are at risk of retention in first grade within 12- 20 weeks of instruction. Documentation shows that children who receive Reading Recovery maintain their gains and continue to achieve within the average of their class throughout their education.
