Reading Recovery - History

Long Beach Unified began implementing Reading Recovery in 1991.Selected Title I schools in the Long Beach Unified SD participate in the Reading Recovery program through the application of interested teachers and principals.

Long Beach Unified has a deep philosophical and fiscal commitment to teaching all children to read, and Reading Recovery is a fundamental part of that commitment. Our district believes that every child can learn, and that every child has a right to learn how to read. Intervening early guarantees that children will be given an opportunity to start off their educational careers with a strong literacy foundation in place. Reading Recovery is seen as a safety net for the most struggling readers, and it ensures that no child is left behind.
