AVID Elementary

The core curriculum from the AVID elective class is being integrated into many 4th and 5th grade classrooms throughout the district.

Mission:

The mission of AVID Elementary is to ensure all students will:

• Demonstrate Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading skills (WICOR)
• Utilize organization skills
• Develop student success skills
• Successfully make the transition to middle school

Purposes:

1. To cultivate intrinsic motivation by
   1. Creating a vision of academic success
   2. Creating a belief that academic rigor is expected, possible, and attainable
      
      When a & b are in place, positive self-esteem and self-confidence will follow.
2. To create better students and teachers through the development of a consistent way to think and process information
3. To provide equal access to AVID Elementary methodologies for all students
4. To create a bridge between elementary and middle school
5. To better identify future AVID students
