Language Arts / Literacy Mission Statement

Grades K-5
The mission of the K-5 Literacy Team is to support administrators, teachers, and students so that all student groups attain measurable growth in literacy. We are district support personnel who provide research-based professional development, materials support, demonstration lessons, coaching, and data analysis support by listening, collaborating, and responding to the diverse needs of our district population.

Grades 6-12
The 6-12 Literacy Office is a service-oriented office whose mission is to provide instructional leadership in English/Language Arts that supports district school communities in raising the academic achievement of all students and in preparing students to meet the California English/Language Arts Content Standards. We collaborate with teachers and other stakeholders to build their capacity to respond to student needs by providing standards-based curriculum documents and assessments and professional development in effective research-based literacy strategies, so that all students graduate with the requisite communication skills to become contributing members of society.

Language Arts / Literacy Vision Statement

We believe that all students can learn and want to learn. They come to school with their own special experiences and knowledge on which their literacy can be built. Students will become literate by building on these experiences and knowledge and by receiving developmentally appropriate instruction. This will provide the basis for students' progress from emergent to fluent readers and writers. In order to become members of a literate community, students need"
