What is Constitution Day?

The final draft of the United States Constitution was signed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 17, 1787.    In the years following many citizens of the United States have celebrated the creation of the Constitution at various times during the month of September. In 1955, the Daughters of the American Revolution began petitioning Congress to proclaim the week following September 17 as Constitution Week in observance of our highly respected document. On August 2, 1956 President Eisenhower signed this into law.

Fifty years later, in 2005, President George W. Bush signed public law 108-77 requiring all educational institutions that receive federal funds to teach the United States Constitution on September 17. The law also states that educators be provided with teaching materials to fulfill this mandate.

Attached below are a variety of activities that you can use to commemorate this celebration.
