Felton WilliamsNOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Governing Board of the Long Beach Unified School District is requesting public participation in the review of elementary, middle and high school textbooks and instructional materials being considered for adoption to support the mathematics course of study. The proposed mathematics textbooks and instructional materials will be on display at Textbook Services from February 19, 2008 through March 18, 2008. Appointments may be made by calling (562)997-8000 extension 3050 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The textbooks are being considered for use in the district’s schools beginning September, 2008.
Voters elect five Board of Education members by geographic area to serve four-year terms. High school students elect a non-voting student representative who sits on the Board.
The duties of the Board include adopting the annual budget, approving all expenditures, establishing district policy, authorizing employment of personnel, approving textbooks and courses of study, and approving new and innovative academic initiatives.
Regular meetings of the Board are generally held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 5 p.m. in the Community Room of the District Administration Building, 1515 Hughes Way, Long Beach, CA. To contact a Board member, call (562) 997-8240.
Board of Education meetings are televised on local cable. They air in Long Beach and Signal Hill on Channel 24 and in Lakewood on Channel 35. Broadcast times on those channels are 10 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and 8 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Meetings also are televised in Avalon, Catalina Island on Channel 49 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m. or immediately following the City Council broadcast.
