Lindbergh Teacher Wins History Award

J.P. Alegria, an American history teacher at Lindbergh Middle School, received the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) "Outstanding Teacher of American History" award from DAR District XIII at its recent annual American History Luncheon. The award-winning eighth grade teacher has been teaching at Lindbergh since 1989. He challenges his students to enjoy history by using technology and a variety of teaching strategies. He incorporates music, dance, art and games to engage and entertain students as they learn American history. Alegria uses field trips to universities, museums and other such places help to broaden the experiences of Lindbergh students. The students in Alegria’s classes are involved in various community activities, working closely with the Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach. Besides teaching five periods of American history daily, Alegria coaches baseball and basketball.
