Ramon Curiel, Personnel Commission administrator, was recently awarded the 2002 Schuyler C. Joyner Award of the California School Personnel Commissioners Association. It is awarded annually to the personnel director who demonstrates the strongest leadership, most creativity and success in implementing a merit system of employment in California.
Curiel has been Personnel Commission administrator for Long Beach Unified School District for the past three years, where he has implemented several innovative programs in personnel administration, selection and employee recognition. He held similar positions at UCI, the County of Orange, the City of Pasadena and Rowland Unified School District before joining the district. LBUSD employs more than 3,000 classified employees under the merit system.
