A team of students from the Sato Academy of Mathematics and Science won a statewide aerial drone design contest recently in San Diego, qualifying for national competition.
The “QuadDragons” Drone Team coached by Albert Gallo and Will Chesher participated in the Academy of Model Aeronautics UAS4STEM search and rescue regional competition. The team included Tasha Adler, Alexis Salazar, Youliana Boutros, Stephen Salazar and Henry Samala.
The students flew their small Unmanned Aerial System, or drone, and took first place in the California regionals for the third consecutive year. The team scored 139 out of 160 points, the second highest score in the nation.
The young engineers secured a spot at the UAS4STEM National Competition to be held in Muncie, Ind. on Aug. 17.
