International Conference Features Poly Jazz

The talented Poly High School Jazz Ensemble this week played before jazz greats at the most prestigious jazz professional conference in the world. The Poly jazz instrumental group was one of only five groups selected from 600 applicants worldwide to perform at the event. The International Association of Jazz Educators Conference continues today at the Long Beach Convention Center. The performers earned their spot by sending in a tape and being selected on a blind listening without the schools being identified during the judging. The talented ensemble is the top jazz performing group at Poly, consisting of 22 students who perform contemporary jazz. Instructor and band leader is Chris Stevens. Student members include Brandon Allen, Cliff Baldridge, Derek Baldridge, Gregory Blair, Robert Conrad, Ryan Dennis, Markay Fairley, John Gaspar, Madeline Gilbertson, Daniel Hamm, Jazmine Harnishfeger, Colin Honigman, Rusty Huber, Robyn Javier, Alexander Juchna, Glenn Kozawa, Trevor O'Neill, Sarah Ostlund, Jeff Peters, Somatra Sean, Tom Terrell and Shawn Van Valkenburgh.
