More than 41,000 students are attending school in the Long Beach Unified School District this summer. That record summer total amounts to 44 percent of the district’s 94,000-student enrollment during the regular school year.
With year-round and summer school programs now in full swing, district schools have enrolled the largest number of summertime students in LBUSD history.
Here in California’s third largest school district, more than 25,000 students are attending year-round schools in grades K-8. Summer schools account for another 16,000 students: 7,160 elementary students, 2,600 middle school students and 6,300 high school students.
Total enrollment in the district’s 94 schools is expected to grow to 103,000 by 2004.
