Student Art Contest

Seventy-two middle and high school students participated in the 10th annual National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Art Contest held recently at the Aquarium of the Pacific. 

The contest is part of NOAA Day, an annual event that attracts more than 7,000 visitors.  The art contest encourages students to learn more about issues affecting the world’s oceans.  “Rising Seas and Us” was this year’s theme.

Winners from Group One (grades 6 to 9) were: first place, Sai Coultas, second, Lily Graff: and third, Chloe Durham, all seventh graders at Rogers Middle School. Honorable mentions went to Marisol Guerrero, a ninth grader at Jordan High School, and to Kathia Alvarado and Annaliese Mirsec, both seventh graders at Rogers.

Winners from Group Two (grades 10 to 12) were: first place - Hannah Rodrigues, grade 11 at Millikan; second, Sophaelena Chhom, grade 12 at Millikan; and third, Angelina Ley, grade 11 at Millikan.  Honorable mentions went to Salina Ortiz, grade 11 at Renaissance, and to 12th grader David Valasquez and 11th grader Bianca Byrnes, both from Millikan.
