Long Beach Unified School District and the City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine are jointly funding the summer 2001 playground program at 27 school sites. Staffed with a leader and an aide from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, the popular program runs through August 3.
Two traveling teams will provide craft time at the school sites designated for special education classes. These traveling teams are skilled in providing crafts for elementary students with special needs.
Lunch will be served for academic summer school students only, not for summer playground participants. Students planning to stay through the day will be responsible for providing their own lunches.
Summer playground sites include Avalon, Alvarado, Barton, Bixby, Bryant, Buffum, Cubberley, Emerson, Fremont, Gant, Garfield, Gompers, Henry, Newcomb, Hudson, International, Kettering, Longfellow, Lowell, MacArthur, Mann, McKinley, Muir, Prisk, Riley, Sutter, Tincher and Webster schools.
