Ten teachers in the Long Beach Unified School District recently earned National Certification, the highest professional distinction in teaching.
More than 150 teachers here have earned the honor over the years. The rigorous certification is a year-long process that involves submitting portfolios, videotaping classroom instruction and participating in a day of written exercises.
The newest nationally certified teacher is Celia Victoria of Lincoln Elementary School.
Teachers who recently earned renewal of the certification are Laura Barlow, King; Kristine Diehl, Signal Hill; Renee Gonzalez-Gomez, Lincoln; James Orihuela, Keller; Stephanie Sasaki, Jefferson; Joanne Ujiie, Birney; Deidre Wood, Millikan; Michelle Woolwine, Cleveland; and Dunia Zeineddine, Poly.
Each of the teachers was honored with a certificate at a recent LBUSD Board of Education meeting.
National Board Certification is valid for ten years. Teachers can renew their certification by completing a portfolio to demonstrate professional growth.
