Lowell Nominated for Blue Ribbon Award

Lowell Elementary School was one of 49 schools in the state recently selected as a California Nominee to the National Blue Ribbon Schools Elementary Program for 2000-01. Last year, Lowell won the state's highest award for a school, the California Distinguished School Award. Lowell was recognized for its excellence in meeting the needs of students, using cocurricular activities to extend the academic curriculum, fostering a caring community and providing continuous curriculum renewal, among other goals. If Lowell is selected for further review, the school will have an inspection visit early next year. Blue Ribbon winners will be notified in the spring. Last academic year, Rogers and Hughes middle schools were honored as Blue Ribbon schools, joining Prisk and Twain elementary schools and Cubberley School as LBUSD's outstanding national award winners.
