March 10, 2000
An evening of heartwarming, uplifting stories and beat-the-odds successes of courageous, tenacious elementary, middle and high school students will show how they are contributing to their schools, their communities and their futures.
Some have recently made remarkable improvements. Others have personified excellence for years. All deserve the recognition they'll receive at the Fourth Annual Most Inspiring Student Awards Dinner, sponsored by the Long Beach Education Foundation.
Each student selected by a school as its most inspiring student will be honored Thursday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel.
Tickets are available from the Long Beach Education Foundation at 997-8111. The donation is $50.
Although there are hundreds of inspiring students who deserve recognition, each school was asked to identify a student who best represents one or more of the following qualities.
• is an inspiring example,
• is unusually persistent,
• makes a tremendous effort,
• is an exemplary "good citizen" who is dedicated to serving the school or community,
• could be described as a hero for overcoming adversity or circumstances that might have prevented a less determined student from succeeding, or
• has made a dramatic improvement or turnaround.
All of the proceeds of the event are used to support the Long Beach Education Foundation charities with classroom grants, school uniforms for needy children, camperships to Hi-Hill Outdoor School and scholarships.
