Poly Strikes Gold with Top 10 Music in U.S.

The music program at Poly High School has been recognized as one of the top 10 in the nation by the GRAMMY Foundation. Determined on the basis of a scoring system applied by top music educators and professionals, Poly was designated a "Gold" recipient in the GRAMMY Signature Schools program. Poly's music department will receive $5,000, which will be used to benefit Poly musicians. The selection process began in the fall, when questionnaires were mailed to 18,000 public high schools throughout the country requesting information about their music programs. Based on these responses, 500 schools were invited to submit additional material, including recordings of school concerts, sample concert programs, music curriculum and repertoire which was reviewed by an independent screening committee. Poly is one of only 10 high schools in the U.S. to receive the highest "Gold" rating. Participating on the GRAMMY Signature Schools advisory committee are members of the American Federation of Musicians, ASCAP, the Berklee College of Music, BMI, Crossroads School, MENC, Thelonious Monk Institute, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, NAMM, National Music Council, Music Performance Trust Funds, USC Thornton School of Music and Cherokee Nation.
