New LMU President Hails from LBUSD

Wilson High School graduate and former LBUSD administrator David W. Burcham was inaugurated this month as president of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

Burcham, a former high school activities director and football coach here, has deep roots in Long Beach, where Burcham Elementary School and Burcham Field at Poly High School are named after David's grandfather, a former Poly principal.  The grandfather’s son, Hugh David Burcham, was a member of the school board here.

LMU’s newest president graduated first in his class from Loyola Law School in 1984 and clerked at the U.S. Supreme Court for Justice Byron White.
