Enrollment information

The Long Beach Unified School District is one of the world’s top 20 school systems —  and one of the top three in the U.S. — in terms of sustained and significant improvements, according to a recent report described as the most comprehensive analysis of global school system reform ever assembled.

The report was issued by McKinsey & Company, a trusted advisor and counselor to many of the most influential businesses and institutions in the world.  McKinsey serves more than 70 percent of Fortune magazine’s most admired companies.

“Over the past 20 years Long Beach Unified School District has become a model for urban public school system transformation in the United States,” says the 140-page report titled “How the world’s most improved school systems keep getting better.”

GREAT THEN.  GREAT NOW.

Guided by a Manned Maneuvering Unit, Bruce McCandless II floats freely in space, about 100 meters from the cargo bay of the Space Shuttle Challenger.  He and his colleague NASA Astronaut Robert Stewart were the first to experience such an untethered space walk in 1984.  McCandless, a 1954 graduate of Wilson High School in Long Beach, is one of many distinguished graduates of the Long Beach Unified School District, which continues to earn international acclaim and was recently named one of the world’s leading school systems.
